The Core of Social

Weather you are reading this for personal reasons or as a business all of these principles will be applicable in both cases. Being online or in person you are always doing some form of social marketing. Social is interacting with others to share thoughts, ideas, interests, and passions. Marketing is the process of making people know you exist. My friend Spencer Tagger, a social marketing pro, always says "Social Marketing is 5% marketing and 95% social".

All communication you do should fall into two categories, helpful or funny. People will not care to listen or be around you if you can not provide entertainment or something that improves their life in some way. People care more about what they have in common with you, friends, goals, and aspirations. They care less about promotions or what you had for breakfast. I'm not saying don't post content that promotes a product or when you plan to eat dinner but what I am saying is understand your audience and know what they would like to see or hear. Don't expect anyone to like and share anything that doesn't resonate with them.
